OUR FOUNDER

Meet our founder and lead instructor, Jenna Ferguson .

Jenna’s approach to teaching Classical Pilates, ballet, and Zena Rommett Floor Barre® is with an eye for detail, form, and correct alignment for the dancer, athlete, or average citizen to function in their body to the best of their ability, to have longevity in their career, and to be ambulatory for as long as possible. She’s worked with people who’ve never danced nor exercised in their lives to professional athletes, opera singers, marathon runners, youth soccer teams, pre-professional ballet dancers, and with children as young as 8 years old to elders in their 90s. Jenna is also a certified Zena Rommett Floor Barre® teacher, and created her own Pilates teacher training program, Original Pilates Teacher Training.

BIO

A native of Seattle, Jenna began her ballet training at prominent pre-professional schools in the Seattle metropolitan area and studied at pre-professional programs in Philadelphia and New York City. She performed and toured professionally for over two decades starting in Seattle at age 10, and performing throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and Europe. Jenna has taught ballet, modern and jazz dance since age 16 at several of Seattle’s foremost private schools and pre-professional ballet school divisions, as well as choreographed and acted as a rehearsal director for dance schools and professional theatres in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area. Since 1989, Jenna has been a proud member of the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA).

A severe back injury brought Jenna to the Authentic method of Pilates for rehabilitation, then on to training for certification as a Classical Pilates teacher. She has taught Pilates since July 2004, receiving her Romana’s Pilates International (RPI) teaching certificate in November of the same year from Romana Kryzanowska, through Metropolitan Pilates, Seattle. After certifying, Jenna taught Pilates at studios in the greater Seattle area and throughout the United States, as well as Paris, France. Jenna has worked with many world-renown senior teachers, teacher trainers, and master teacher trainers of RPI and other Classical/Authentic Pilates schools. As a senior instructor, teaching in the capacity of a Level IV Romana’s Pilates International teacher trainer, Jenna taught and supervised apprentices to prepare them for their practical and written exams in Seattle, the Florida Keys, and New York City.

WHY THE CLASSICAL METHOD OF PILATES?

The Classical Method of Pilates: Why It’s the Gold Standard

Pilates is one of the most popular forms of exercise that’s been around for decades. It’s a low-impact workout that focuses on developing strength, flexibility, and balance through a series of controlled movements.

As Pilates becomes increasingly popular among studios, gyms, and online platforms…, there are different approaches to the method – like Contemporary, Classical, and Hybrid. Read on to learn more about the Classical Method and why it’s one of the best ways to practice the exercise!
